Pranams.
I am posting 5 exercises, so that anyone who logs in will have a chance to answer.
The first person who logs in will answer only one, which he is comfortable with. If till
Monday no one answers the rest, then he can attempt all of them.
कथा
मूढः जम्बूकः
एकः जम्बूकः अस्ति । सः एकदा आहारार्थं वने भ्रमति । एकत्र सः द्राक्षालतां पश्यति । लतायाम् अनेकानि द्राक्षाफलानि सन्ति । तानि फक्वानि ।
जम्बूकः चिन्तयति - "अद्य मम द्राक्षाफलानां भोजनम्" इति । द्राक्षां लब्धुम् उपरि उत्पतति । किन्तु द्राक्षाफलानि न प्राप्नोति । जम्बूकः पुनः पुनः उत्पतति । तथापि फलानि न प्राप्नोति ।
जम्बूकः दूषयति । ’द्राक्षाफलानि आम्लानि’ इति वदति । अनन्तरं स्वस्थानं गच्छति ।
Exercises:-
Ex I. Translate this story into English
Ex II. एतेषाम् उत्तरं लिखत ।

Answer: jambuka: aahaaratham vane atati.
2. जम्बूकः किं पश्यति ?
Answer: jambuka: dhrakshalathaam pashyati.

Posting the answer for Ex 1. Let me face the truth - I can answer only Ex 2 and the rest 3, 4 and 5 , I am unable to answer.
Ex 1 -
Once, there is a fox. He is wandering in a forest in search of food. He sees grapevines together. There are many grapes on these grapevines. Ripe grapes. Fox thinks “ Today, my lunch is grapefruits.” To get the grapes, he jumps up. But he cannot catch the grapes. Fox jumps again and again. But still he cannot get the grapes. Fox starts cursing. He says, “ grapes are sour”. Then ( thus saying ? ) , he goes home.

Acharya ji.
I am interested in giving the answers in Sanskrit. I tried the software.
I could see my typing words in English getting converted to Sanskrit words.
I dont know what is the link between that software and how to bring the
words and sentences I get in Sanskrit there to this reply box.
While I was preparing my answers, I copied and pasted from the question
paragraph it self. But I could not do so from the software editor.
In the software editor i found three boxes.
When I type in English in the bottom box, I could see Sanskrit
words coming in the middle box. I thought these words and sentences will move to the top box when I click
"ENTER". But the Sanskrit words and sentences disappeard insttead of appearing in the top box.
I think I have explained my difficulties properly. Kindly excuse me if I have confused you.
I feel I have to learn as how to use the software editor. A suitable demo or tutorial may be helpful.

न कश्चिदपि जानाति किं कस्य श्वो भविष्यति ।
अतः श्वः करणीयानि कुर्यादद्यैव बुद्धिमान् ॥
Opening sandhi -
न कश्चित (कः + चित) अपि जानाति किं कस्य श्वो भविष्यति
अतः श्वः करणीयानि कुर्यात अद्य एव बुद्धिमान् ॥
(not anyone) No one knows what will happen and to whom tomorrow. Therefore, what is to be done tomorrow, intelligent ones must do it today.
Doubt:
1. करणीय means 'to be done". Is करणीयानि its plural like तत् -तानि ? meaning 'tasks to be done' ?
2.कुर्यात - which pratyaya of कुरु is this?

1. Trees grow - वृक्षाः वर्धन्ते ।
2. Girls grieve - बालिकाः खिद्यन्ते।
3. You (all) protect - यूयं त्रायध्वे ।
4. Street-lights glow - मार्गदिपाः प्रकाशन्ते।
5. We beg - वयम याचामहे।
6. You run away - त्वं पलायसे ।

Found this answer from some source. I couldn't figure it out.

What is desirable to the king in war? Victory जय
Who is the most venerable (worshipped) among Gods? God of Victory is Lord Shiva मृत्युञ्जय
Give one answer to all the three question - मृत्युञ्जय (victory over death)
Intially I couldn't understand how this can be 'one answer to all three' but my guess is it is because of the reason below -
Man wants to conquer death by dying in Kashi and King wants to conquer death in war by victory and Most worshipped among Gods is Lord shiva who helps us to conquer death )

The answer to the riddle is correct. Regarding doubt in Subhasitam, karaneeyaani is plural, Aneeyar pratyaya.
Kuryaat Kuryaataam KuryuH | is Parasmaipada 8th Gana. It is declined in both Pada's.
Nice to know many have tried to answer the exercises.

Vazga Valamudan ji, Namaste. While you are awaiting Acharya ji's answer, I will share with you what I am using. I am using Gmail. It has a feature to select sanskrit font. We can copy and paste what we typed there to here. It gets posted in Sanskrit.

I already use Gmail to write Tamil mails,
I did not know that Sanskrit fonts are also available there.
This will solve my problem. I will try and use that and write Sanskrit replies.
