Gita Chapter 10 - Vibhuti Yoga

VERSE-40
Lord Krishna concludes the description of His vibhuti or divine transcendental opulence with the words nanto'sti there is no limit to them and also there is no being in all existence that can account and describe them all. What Lord Krisna has given is only a very small partial description of His vibhuti.

Verse 41
Although it is not possible to describe all Lord's divine, transcendental opulence, still in order to please His devotees Lord concisely reveals that whatever being or object that possesses brillience or magesty and beauty and is excellently endowed with wishdom, power and might should be known surely to be but a spark of effulgence from Lord Krishna's vibhuti.

Verse-42
In this verse Lord informs that what ever has been confirmed as the reality regarding His vibhuti is extremely minimal. In whatever condition material creation may appear , be it the absolute reality of the supra subtle unmanifest state of the brahman being the spiritual substratum pervading all existence or be it the relative reality of the supra gross manifest state possessing the five elements. Whether exsisting temporarily or in perpetuity, the total creation comprised
of chit or consciousness and Acit or unconscious beings. Objects and substances are structured in such a way as to not conflict with each other and never go contrary against the supreme Lord's will. The blessed PARASARA THE FATHER OF Vedavyasa revealed in the Vishnu Purana that the whole creation is maintained 1 percent of 100 million part of Lord Krishna's inconceivable power.

Sloka 41-43

The subject matter of the Lord Vibhuti is now being concluded. Lord Krishna informs that as His vibhuti is infinite and endless it is not possible to state them all and they only have been stated in brief

Although it is not possible to describe all of the Lord 's vibhuti or divine, transcendental opulence, still in order to please His devotees, Bhagavan concisely reveals that whatever being or object that possesses brilliance, majesty and beauty and is excellently endowed with wisdom, power and might should be known surely to be but a spark of effulgence from Lord Krishna's vibhuti.

The Lord states in conclusion-What is the necessity of this limited version of Himself? It is better to see Him existing everywhere within every living being. What purpose is served by knowing all these facts separately when He alone pervades and sustains the total material creation with just a fraction of Himself. There is nothing existing beyond the Lord.

Sloka 37
वृष्णीनां वासुदेवोऽस्मि There is no reference to lord as an incarnation but as the best member of the Vrsni clan.All the divine glories in this chapter, have been described from the worldly view point.In fact they are all manifestations of the Lord.
पाण्डवानां धनञ्जयः Whatever distinction Arjuna, the Lord's dear friend possesses, is the Lord's.So the Lord declares him to be His very self.

मुनीनामप्यहं व्यास Vyasa complied the Vedas and divided them in four parts and the other scriptures are also written by him.He is known as guide to modern authors.He is been declared by the Lord as divine glory.So a striver, should think of Lord because all distinction in him , is the Lord's.

कवीनामुशना कवि Kavi is who knows the scriptural principles and Sukracarya was one of this he was an expert in the science of reviving the dead.He is known for his science of ethics and he was declared to be very self of the Lord.

Sloka 38

दण्डो दमयतामस्मि Just punishment is necessary, for a convict to deter him, from the sinful behavior and to enable him to follow the right conduct.So thr Lord has declared it to be, Hi divine glory.

नीतिरस्मि जिगीषताम्‌ It is the righteousness by which one gain victory and again it is righteousness which makes a victory
everlasting.So the Lord declares it to be, His divine glory

मौनं चैवास्मि गुह्यानां Silent is the most important because every person cannot know the feelings of those who keep silent.So the Lord speaks of it as His divine glory.

ज्ञानं ज्ञानवतामहम्‌ Whatever knowledge or wisdom the wise have, is the Lord's divine glory.

Sloka 39

यच्चापि सर्वभूतानां बीजं तदहमर्जुन The Lord gave importance to divine glories that he is the seed or the cause of the entire, animate or inanimate creation.He Himself is the creator as well as the creation.

न तदस्ति विना यत्स्यान्मया भूतं चराचरम्‌ In this universe all the moving or unmoving, animate and inanimate all of them orginate from Him.By knowing this facts the striver should think of God alone in whatever he sees and whatever comes to his mind and intellect.

Shloka 40

The Lord says that He has concluded enumerating His glories not because He has exhausted the list. The list is inexhaustible and there is no end to His divine glories. This enumeration was only a random sample to illustrate and make the devotee understand the various aspects of His glory. He goes on to tell Arjuna that He will guide the devotee to extend this list on his own. He gives the devotee the instruction on how to do so in the next shloka.

Shloka 41

When one confronts various things and beings in creation which leaves one awestruck , which is rich or abundant,invaluable, powerful or beautiful, the Lord asks the devotee to remember Him. The devotee should always remember that all the above stated categories of things and beings are only a very small part of His infinitesimal glory.

Shloka 42

He concludes the chapter by saying that the whole thing can be viewed in a different perspective. Instead of saying that the Lord is the creation, one can say that the whole creation is in the Lord. He is the one who supports and sustains the entire creation. He reminds us again that His sustaining the entire creation is only a small part of Him, therby giving Arjuna and all of us an idea of His infinitesimal magnitude.

VERSE 40,41 .42
Lord now concludes by telling arjuna – my divine glories have no end. whatever is said is only some aspects of his glories because it is impossible to explain the
infinite glories in finite time.Lord’s glories are seen in srishti,sthithi and laya. Whatever objects or whichever living beings are endowed with majesty, which can
give immense joy ,which is full of power and energy understand that it is lords glory- a wee bit of lords greatness.

Lord gives one more indicator for arjuna to understand glory. This entire realm of matter- ananthakodi brahmanda is nourished and pervaded by one fraction of me .so
there is no need to know it extensively . lord is incomprehensible and to know him one has to become one with him

Sloka 40-42

The divya means singularity and if striver thinks of the lord only in whatever circumstances he is or wherever he is, that singularity or divinity, is revealed to him, because there is none else as singular and divine as the Lord.
There is no end of Lord glories he is endless, limitless and bottomless, he is beyond the limit of time, and space.
The Lord describes His divine glories in detail from the view-point of Arjuna.But from His viewpoint this description is very brief because his glories are endless.

Whatever glory,brilliance,power,beauty or any other singularity,appears in animate or inanimate things,and persons should be known as a manifestation of a spark of the Lord's splendor.

God has manifest Himself in the form of the world because He is the pervaded as well as pervader. He.He is subtle as well as great.He is real as well as unreal.

Summary of Chapter 10

The Chapter begins with Bhagavan telling Arjuna that he is again going to explain the Knowledge that he has already given earlier because Arjuna was a fit receiver. The Lord praises the Knowledge by saying that no one but He Himself could explain this to Arjuna. The nature of this Knowledge is to know the Lord as unborn and without a beginning.

Further the Lord pervades both the external world of names and forms as well as the internal world of thoughts. The One has become the Many, and the Many is nothing but the One. Knowing that One has become Many is Vibhuti. Knowing that the Many is nothing but the One is Yoga. One who knows this becomes fearless.

The Lord then goes to explain the nature of his devotees, and how they are always absorbed in Him. And for such and such people alone does the Lord bestow "Buddhi Yoga", the knowledge of the Self by destroying their ignorance and lighting the Lamp of Knowledge.

Arjuna hearing these words of the Lord, praises the Lord in a few Slokas. He then requests the Lord to explain some of His glories, as he wants to know more about the Lord.

The Lord in the rest of this Chapter explains his Vibhutis. These are meant to develop devotion, know the Majesty of the Lord as well as to serve as meditation and keep our mind elevated by thinking of His glories.

The Lord finally concludes by saying that there is no end to His glories. How can there be a definite exhaustive list? He therefore says it is enough to know that this world is held by one part of Himself, meaning there is no end to His Vibhuti.
